Christmas In Thomonde 2011
Sunday morning, around 350 people gathered into the Thomonde church for the Christmas program. One of the highlights of the service was piano music from my father-in-law. I don't think the congregation had ever heard that kind of playing before. :) The leader of the Christmas service was so impressed that he asked Brother Overdorff to come forward again to play O Holy Night while the congregation sang.
Another highlight included giving over 100 mini vehicles to the children of the church. These kids have no toys, so one vehicle was a great gift to these kids. Some of the parents were literally pleading with me to give their kid one of these little yellow humvees.
At 4:15 P.M. the youth of the church organized their own Christmas program. One young man had prepared an outstanding poem in Creole for Christmas. Nehemiah, Jeff, and Sankara sang a Christmas song in hilarious fashion, like they were a trio of country hill billies.
At 5:30, we had a candlelight/ caroling service. The church people streamed out into the community with candles lit, singing the Carols with enthusiasm. Unlike other years, there wasn't a single case of street ruffians causing trouble. Thank God. It was a good Christmas on the mission field.
