Conquering the Mountain

Tue, 06/28/2011 - 9:12pm |  haititrails

Today, all of us missionaries made a fourwheeler trip to an extreme mountain that has two cell phone towers on top.  This trip was a sightseeing trip.  Every once in a while, we missionaries need a trip like this.

A road has been bulldozed to the top of the mountain.  Every few months a gas truck drives to the top to deliver fuel to two generators that run constantly to power the cell phone towers.  The road is a sheer, dangerous road.  It is hard to believe that a truck makes it to the top.  Several times, we had our fourhweeler tires in the air.  Danae and I breathed a sigh of relief to get back down from that mountain, but the view is incredible once you at the top.

We stopped at one point on the steep trail to fix the spark plug on the Honda.  While mother was walking and holding Alendria, suddenly she found herself falling.  The area was extremely rocky with lots of loose gravel.  It was a frightening moment as I looked up to see mother and Alendria falling to the ground.  Both mother and Alendria suffered minor injuries.  Alendria's face was scratched and mother sprained her wrist, but thank God all of those things are minor compared to what could have happened.

I can say that this has been the roughest trail that I have experienced on the mission field.  It was good to spend time with our family and Heidi Smith.  The views were breath taking.  Now that we conquered that mountain, I can't say I'm itching to go back up again!
