The Allegheny mission at Thomonde has always emphasized education.  When the mission began, the entire area was highly illiterate.  The missionaries saw the need for education and schools were established in Thomonde, Casse, Savanette, Thomassique, Salmadere, Benaco, and several other areas.  The mission has done much to give literacy to the entire region.  Today, approximately 1,700 students attend our mission schools.
