The theme of our conference was Ezekial 33:7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel [Haiti]; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. Tim spoke each morning to the preachers of their great responsibility as a minister of the gospel, in their personal lives, their families lives, and to the people to whom they are responsible. The Haitian pastors preached each evening on watching what we see, listen to, speak, admire, and touch. Both the morning and evening messages touched hearts deeply and many left with a greater desire to be a faithful watchman to souls around them.
Money has finally started to come in earnest for the repairs of the fire damaged house! We are so thankful, because Hansel and Danae are scheduled to return on May 15 and we are now free to move ahead with more repairs, appliance purchases, etc, knowing that the money is available to do so.

Aaron Booths applied once again, to be missionaries and have been accepted by the mission board to come to Thomonde after conference in June. We are thankful that God has called them to return. Since they have already been here a year and a half, they will not be strangers to the Haitians, they have a good start on the language, and they have an understanding how the mission runs. We are thankful that their year and a half of training will now be used!

Dear Family and friends,

Greetings in Christ Jesus. I am writing to you on a beautiful sunny day, even though this is the beginning of January. During this time of year, we see some of the nicest weather here in central Haiti, cool evenings and moderately warm days.

We have been on the mission field for just over 3 months. We flew to Haiti on October 1, 2010. After setting up house, we began to actively help in the mission work. We were involved with one large distribution of supplies for earthquake victims. We also helped in the building of homes for the earthquake victims.

Danae began her first Creole lessons and she learned how to be a homemaker on the mission field. It isn't an easy task with only 3 hrs. of electricity per day and fire ants that invade every little space in the kitchen. Danae is grateful for the help of a Haitian girl named Keti, who comes almost every workday to help with household duties. Working with Keti, gives Danae time to practice her Creole.

During November, we experienced much rain from Tropical Storm Thomas. Some areas of Haiti were flooded. Also, during that month, Mother and Dad Young went on a much needed vacation. I (Hansel) supervised the mission schools during their absence. I was also the mission treasurer for about five weeks. Supervising the schools also meant organizing a school cafeteria for the hundreds of mission students here at Thomonde.

During the last couple of months, the deadly disease cholera has hit the country of Haiti. Thousands have died and over one hundred thousand have been sickened Just this last Thursday, I talked with one of our church ladies from Casse that survived an attack of cholera. It has spread all over the country, although Thomonde has been spared from a terrible outbreak. Cholera is a dangerous disease and Haiti's version is the most deadly strain, so we are taking many precautions to avoid it. We are constantly sanitizing our hands, our food, our water and even the tile and cement floors . Avoiding cholera gets complicated with little kids. We ask for your prayers for safety.

During November, I was privileged to hold a revival at our Marmonte church. I believe God did a work in the church as a number of seekers came to the altar. The revival was a real highlight of our time in Haiti. Please pray for Pastor Jean Robert as he directs the church.

11 years ago, my Granddad Wayne Sanders and myself made a trip by four wheeler into a hard to reach area of Haiti called Baytourible. We both saw the need of the gospel. In December, we missionaries visited Baytourible. It was my first time to enter there in 11 years. After a rough ride over mountain trails, we arrived. We passed out gospel tracts and information on how to prevent cholera. When we arrived in Baytourible., so many people assembled in minutes that we decided to hold an impromptu service. I gave a short salvation message. It was a privilege to share the gospel with these people living in darkness! Please pray that we may do more to reach these people.

This week , the first week of January, I was privileged to make three meaningful trips into the mountains of Haiti. The first trip was on Monday to a place called Sodo. All of the missionaries went on this trip. Sodo has a beautiful falls which is frequented by voodoo worshippers. Sodo is also the location where my Grandparents, the Sanders, worked as missionaries around 50 years ago. I saw the mission house where my mother was brought home after birth. Seeing this mission was like stepping back in time.

Tuesday, this week, I transported several boxes full of Clorox into a place called Bouhwouk. People are dying every day from cholera in this area. I took the Clorox, in order to help them treat their water. My brothers, Heidi Smith and her sisters accompanied me on four wheelers. We handed out gospel tracts, an audio Bible, bottles full of Clorox and several other items.

Wednesday of this week, I made a similar trip into a place called Baytourible. Our pastor there has been telling us of scores of people dying form cholera in this area. Danae went with me, as well as my brothers and the Smith girls. We passed out supplies and gospel tracts to over a hundred people.

Amidst all of these mission tasks, we have found time to make a home. Carlin and Alendria brighten our days. They can be so much fun and so much work! Alendria is now 7 months old and Carlin is 28 months. Carlin loves books, balls, cars, and flashlights. He loves having mommy and daddy play with him. Alendria is a little girl full of smiles. This last Sunday, Dad Young dedicated Alendria to the Lord during the morning church service. That was a great highlight for all of us.

For the first time in several years, we enjoyed having Thanksgiving and Christmas with my parents and brothers. What a joy to have them within five minutes walking distance of our mission home! We have already made many good memories that will last a lifetime.

Danae and I are still adapting to the mission field. We continue to need your prayers. We live in trying and even life threatening circumstances. Some people might wonder why we risk our lives. In answer, God has brought us down here because the Haitian people desperately need the Savior. There are so many areas within our reach that are untouched by the genuine gospel. Oh, that God will help us to be real soul winners in this new year.

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers.

God bless,

Hansel, Danae, Carlin and Alendria
