October 2010
On Friday, October 1, we flew from Ft. Pierce, Florida, to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This trip was the final leg of a long period of preparation to get to the mission field. We were packing and preparing for five months from May to September. The week before we left, my Grandpa passed away and my wife's sister got married. My Grandpa's funeral was on Friday. The wedding was on Saturday and we left for Haiti on Monday! Needless to say, it was a whirlwind tour. We drove 17 hours from Salem, Ohio to Ft. Pierce, FL. There all of our belongings were placed on a Missionary Flights DC3. The following day, Thursday, September 30, we were to fly out. A tropical storm delayed the flight to October 1. Our flight lasted 5 hours including a landing at Exuma in the Bahamas, a landing at Cap-Haitian in Haiti and a final landing at Port-au-Prince, Haiti. We were so thankful to see all of our boxes and suitcases pass through customs with no charge. We then packed our stuff and made the two hour trip out to Thomonde, which ended up taking much longer, due to some construction, muddy roads, and other mishaps. Since we have arrived in Thomonde, we have felt such relief and thankfulness that God got us safely here with all of our belongings. We thank the Lord. Now we are setting up house. It feels good to finally be at our mission station here in Thomonde. Pray that God may use us to win lost souls.
